It’s been over three decades, but a significant breakthrough has occurred in the murder case of Shona Stevens.
Shona, just 31 years old at the time, was discovered seriously injured on a woodland path close to her home in Irvine, North Ayrshire, on November 10, 1994. Despite efforts to save her, she passed away in the hospital three days later.
On Friday, authorities from Police Scotland revealed they arrested a 67-year-old man linked to her death.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Gillies, who is leading the investigation, expressed gratitude to the local community for their support, stating, “I appreciate the valuable information provided by members of the public which has aided our investigation.”
As the 30th anniversary of Shona’s death approaches in November 2024, police and her family are renewing their plea for information regarding the incident.
Mhairi Smith, Shona’s mother, shared an emotional note, saying, “Every single day, our thoughts and hearts are with her.” This marks a continuation of appeals for help, with a similar request made back in 2021.
The incident occurred around 1:20 PM on that fateful day in 1994, after Shona was last seen walking alone on Towerlands Road at approximately 1:10 PM. At that time, her daughter Candice was just seven years old.
