Netflix is giving us a new look at The Woman in Cabin 10, an upcoming psychological thriller that’s debuting on their service on October 10, 2025. This movie draws inspiration from Ruth Ware’s popular 2016 book and has been adapted for the screen by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse. The film is in the capable hands of director Simon Stone.
The plot centers around Laura “Lo” Blacklock, played by the talented Keira Knightley. She’s a journalist taking part in the first voyage of a deluxe cruise. During the trip, she witnesses what she believes is a fellow passenger being thrown overboard in the dead of night. However, when she tries to get help, she learns that everyone on board is present and accounted for.
The cast is impressive, featuring well-known actors like Guy Pearce, David Ajala, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kaya Scodelario, David Morrissey, and Hannah Waddingham. They’re joined by a talented ensemble that includes Art Malik, Daniel Ings, Gitte Witt, Christopher Rygh, and several others.
This film has been in the pipeline for some time. Initially, in 2017, CBS obtained the film rights and intended to work with Hillary Seitz on the script. Netflix acquired those rights in May 2024 and promptly assigned Simon Stone to direct, with Knightley taking on the lead role. By September 2024, the cast expanded to include Pearce, Waddingham, Scodelario, and Mbatha-Raw.
Filming was carried out in September 2024 on the scenic Isle of Portland in Dorset, England, and also took place aboard the luxurious superyacht Savannah.
Netflix pitches the film as a taut thriller happening on open water, where “one shocking moment can change everything, even if no one else believes you.”
With its intriguing plot and a stellar cast, The Woman in Cabin 10 is poised to become one of the most talked-about thrillers of the year.
