President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he has ordered two nuclear submarines to be deployed to “appropriate regions” due to what he views as provocative remarks from Dmitry Medvedev, the Deputy Chair of Russia’s Security Council.
In a statement shared on his social media platform, Trump did not disclose the exact locations or the specific capabilities of the submarines.
He stated, “Based on the highly provocative statements of Former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.”
Trump emphasized the weight of words, adding, “Words are very important and can often lead to unintended consequences; I hope this will not be one of those instances.”
Trump’s statement was also shared on social media by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Recently, Medvedev took to social media to respond to Trump’s ultimatum regarding a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine, which involves severe sanctions if not met within his specified timeline.
Medvedev voiced his concerns on X, stating: “Trump’s playing the ultimatum game with Russia: 50 days or 10… He should remember 2 things: 1. Russia isn’t Israel or even Iran. 2. Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country. Don’t go down the Sleepy Joe road!”
Trump’s frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the ongoing war in Ukraine continues to grow, especially in light of reports stating that Russia launched a record 6,443 drones into Ukraine in July, according to ABC News.
On Monday, Trump advanced the deadline for Russia to reach a peace agreement from 50 days to just 10 days. He remarked, “I want to be generous, but we just don’t see any progress being made. I’m not so interested in talking anymore.”
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
