Looks like Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) is on a hiring spree for its Superintelligence Labs! The latest addition to their team is none other than Bowen Zhang, a standout figure in multimodal artificial intelligence from Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), as reported by Bloomberg.

Zhang, who played a key role in shaping Apple’s AI platform, just wrapped up his tenure at Apple last week and is set to embark on this new journey with Meta.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has been quietly but steadily bringing together some heavy-hitters from the tech world for his Superintelligence Labs, a dedicated unit aiming for the ambitious goal of artificial general intelligence and even more.

In fact, just last week, Zuckerberg appointed Shengjia Zhao, one of the masterminds behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT, as the chief scientist of this lab. Zuckerberg remarked, “We are assembling a team full of top-notch talent that possesses the resources and vision to explore the boundaries of superintelligence.”

Last month wasn’t short on exciting hires for Meta either. Besides Zhao, they brought in several researchers from OpenAI including Jiahui Yu, Shuchao Bi, Hongyu Ren, Lucas Beyer, Alexander Kolesnikov, and Xiaohua Zhai.

Moreover, notable figures have recently found a new home in Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, such as ex-GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, AI startup entrepreneur Daniel Gross, and Alexandr Wang, co-founder of Scale AI, who was appointed as Meta’s chief AI officer – scoring Meta a 49% stake in Scale, which has a whopping valuation of $14.3 billion. You can expect Zhao to be reporting to Wang in the future.

In the bigger picture, it seems Meta is pulling talent from major players like Google (GOOG)(GOOGL) DeepMind, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), and Anthropic, completing quite the lineup in the quest for AI innovation.
