Loni Anderson, beloved for her portrayal of the quick-witted receptionist in the iconic television show ‘WKRP in Cincinnati,’ has died at the age of 79. Her departure came just days before her milestone 80th birthday.
As confirmed by her long-time publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan, Anderson passed away in a hospital in Los Angeles after battling through a lengthy illness.
Heartfelt messages from her family expressed their sorrow: “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, and grandmother.”
‘WKRP in Cincinnati’ aired from 1978 to 1982, depicting a struggling radio station in Ohio attempting to revamp itself by pivoting to rock music. The show boasted an impressive cast including Gary Sandy, Tim Reid, Howard Hesseman, Frank Bonner, and Jan Smithers, with Anderson shining as the captivating Jennifer Marlowe.
In her role as the station’s receptionist, Jennifer effectively used her charm to divert unwanted calls directed at her boss, Mr. Carlson. Through her skills and charm, she often ensured the station’s operations remained smooth, even when other staff fell short.
Her memorable performance garnered her multiple accolades, including two Emmy nominations and three nominations for Golden Globe awards.
Anderson also showcased her talent in films, appearing alongside Burt Reynolds in the 1983 comedy ‘Stroker Ace.’ The two later wed, becoming staples in tabloid headlines before finalizing their divorce in 1994.
She leaves behind her husband Bob Flick, daughter Deidra and her husband Charlie Hoffman, son Quinton Anderson Reynolds, grandchildren McKenzie and Megan Hoffman, stepson Adam Flick and his wife Helene, as well as step-grandchildren Felix and Maximilian.
