Thomas Partey, the former Arsenal midfielder, is set to appear in court facing serious charges related to the alleged rapes of two women.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), he faces a total of five rape charges and one count of sexual assault, linked to incidents reported between 2021 and 2022.
The court hearing is scheduled at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this Tuesday.
Partey’s attorney, Jenny Wiltshire, has stated that he “rejects all the accusations against him” and is eager for the chance to “prove his innocence.”
This news comes just days after Partey’s contract with Arsenal expired at the end of June, marking the end of his time with the North London club.
The Ghanaian international is specifically charged with two counts of rape involving one woman and three counts concerning another.
There’s also an allegation of sexual assault involving a third victim, per what the CPS disclosed.
The Metropolitan Police first learned of the allegations in February 2022.
Partey made the move to Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 with a transfer fee around £45 million.
During his tenure with Atletico Madrid, he played a total of 188 matches, even spending time on loan with clubs like Mallorca and Leganes.
Last season at Arsenal, he made 35 appearances in the Premier League, scoring four goals.
Destined for a significant football career, Partey has also represented Ghana over 50 times, participating in tournaments such as the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.
Previously, an Arsenal spokesperson stated, “The player’s contract expired on June 30. Due to ongoing legal matters, the club cannot comment on this situation.”
