A 40-year-old guy from Georgia, Malcolm Xavier Walker, is in hot water after being accused of impersonating a high school football recruiter and scamming many families for a lot of cash across various states.
According to WSB-TV Atlanta, Walker was arrested on July 31 after taking $20,000 from a family in Virginia’s York County. They claim he promised to help their son snag a college football scholarship.
The victim reported to the sheriff’s office that Walker guaranteed college visits, promised to create recruiting highlight reels, and would organize travel to important football seminars. Sadly, after receiving the money, he ghosted them and stopped all communication.
Walker is facing felony charges for larceny by false pretenses and is stuck in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. Authorities are uncovering more alarm bells; he allegedly ran similar scams in several East Coast states, including his home state of Georgia, according to reports from local channels.
Earlier, in March 2025, Gainesville police slapped Walker with a deception charge after he reportedly scammed a local coach and his player. Phyllip Becoats, who mentors a Gainesville High School senior named B.J. Bailey, had paid Walker to get the kid noticed by college scouts.
Walker supposedly made a highlight reel but then promised a visit to the University of Colorado. He asked for over $1,000 to cover travel costs, yet the trip was a total fabrication, and Walker just vanished.
Gainesville Police Lt. Kevin Holbrook stated, “He talks the talk, but that’s all there is to him. He’s just taking people’s money and leaving them high and dry.”
