WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA) — The police in Winter Haven have successfully apprehended a man who had been on the lam for over two years. This ‘violent felon’ was located and arrested last Friday.

According to the Winter Haven Police Department, officers were investigating a suspect with an outstanding warrant at the Abbey Lane Apartments on Evergreen Place. In the midst of their search, they spotted 27-year-old D’Architray L. Sapp dash into an apartment in an attempt to escape detection.

Upon Sapp’s exit from the apartment, police quickly apprehended him and attempted to secure his hands behind his back. However, Sapp managed to jerk his arms away and took off running.

During his escape, Sapp purposefully collided with a female officer, shoving her with his shoulder and causing her to fall. Fortunately, she was unharmed.

It wasn’t long before two officers had to resort to using their Tasers to subdue Sapp and take him into custody.

After being apprehended, Sapp was transported to a local hospital for a medical clearance before being taken to the Polk County Sheriff’s Processing Center.

Police confirmed that Sapp had three active warrants in Polk County, which included charges of attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.

Police Chief Vance Monroe expressed gratitude that none of the officers were injured during the encounter with Sapp. “Our officers did an excellent job ensuring that Sapp has been taken off the streets and secured where he belongs,” he said.
