Kelly Clarkson is totally showing that family is the top priority, no matter the past situations.
In an Instagram post on August 6, the 43-year-old music star disclosed that she needs to delay her ongoing Las Vegas residency for a major reason.
She explained, “I have to postpone the rest of the Studio Session dates this August in Las Vegas. While I usually keep my private life under wraps, my children’s father has been unwell this past year, and I want to be there for them completely. I’m truly sorry to those who bought tickets and I appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.”
These recent statements seemed to confirm the speculation around ex-husband Blackstock’s health that first hit the news in April, as stated in a report by NewsNation. Previously, she had been absent from episodes of The Kelly Clarkson Show, prompting media reactions about her ex-husband’s wellbeing.
On April 18, reports indicated, “Her ex-husband is unwell, and she took their kids to visit him.”
Clarkson shares two kids with Blackstock: their daughter, River, aged 11, and son, Remington, aged 9.
Blackstock’s health issues seem to play a role in the talk that Clarkson might be contemplating leaving her daytime TV contract after the end of the 2025-26 season. A source mentioned on July 10 to People, “She has until next year to decide her next steps, balancing career and family as she’s not one to rush things.”
Clarkson also appears to have a desire to dive back into music full-time, but her commitments to The Kelly Clarkson Show make this pretty complicated. During a concert on May 9 in Atlantic City, she shed light on this struggle.
“It’s been a while since we’ve done a show, y’all, due to my talk show commitments, which feels like another full-time job. We truly miss performing and it’s tough to balance, so I cherish these moments when they come along and love interacting with everyone,” she shared with the audience in New Jersey.
While their divorce was rocky back in 2020, dealing with issues like alimony and her Montana ranch, Clarkson is committed to making co-parenting work for their kids.
“Though it’s certainly challenging with Brandon and I being in different places, what helps is just keeping the children’s welfare as our top priority,” she stated during a November 2024 interview with KOST 103.5.
Ultimately, that’s exactly what Clarkson is focusing on during this tough time, ensuring her kids are at the forefront during their father’s health struggles.
