The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway had to shut down on Friday, August 8, and Saturday, August 9, because of unexpected problems with its electronic system. At this point, there’s no clear timeline for when it will reopen.
As per the statement released by tramway officials on Friday, crews are actively tackling the issue, aiming to start services “as quickly and safely as possible.”
Greg Purdy, who is the vice president of marketing for the tramway, informed The Desert Sun that it would remain closed on Saturday too, and it’s still uncertain if it will be operational by Sunday. He mentioned that all visitors who had bought tickets for Saturday’s rides would receive emails offering refunds or chances to reschedule their trips.
Impact on Splash House Palm Springs Event
This closure has significant implications for lucky attendees of the Splash House event, who were fortunate enough to be selected for an exclusive DJ set by BLOND:ISH scheduled to happen aboard the tram on Friday night, as part of the renowned poolside music festival.
Sara Hartzell from Infamous, the PR firm representing the festival, confirmed to The Desert Sun that the planned set “isn’t going to take place.” Unfortunately, no further details were provided regarding the cancellation, and by 5:15 p.m., the Instagram post from August 4 announcing the special set had not been removed.
Report contributed by Brian Blueskye, entertainment journalist for Desert Sun.
