When Finneas Went to Taylor Swift’s Birthday Party and Had an Awkward Moment

Sometimes, we think of celebrities as these larger-than-life figures, but they can totally get starstruck too. Case in point: Finneas O’Connell, Billie Eilish’s brother and music collaborator, had his funny moment with none other than Taylor Swift at her birthday party a while back.

Finneas, who’s won a Grammy and is super talented, shared his awkward encounter with Taylor when he was promoting his new album with Ashe as their group, The Favors. During his chat with The Guardian, he reminisced about that party:

“I’m trying to think of something cringey… I said thanks for coming to Taylor Swift. At her birthday party. She said, ‘Thank you so much for coming’ and I replied, ‘Thank you for coming!'”

Swift is well-known for throwing epic celebrations, from warm Fourth of July cookouts in Newport to fantastic Halloween costume parties. Just getting invited to one of her events is a win, so actually talking to her is a big deal! Even if it was a little embarrassing for Finneas, I’d say he handled it well given the high-pressure star vibes around.

And let’s not forget, Taylor has a really warm personality. If her sweet interactions with fans while touring are anything to go by, she probably brushed off Finneas’ hiccup. It seems like she’s like, totally used to fans being a bit awkward!

While it’s hard to pin down Finneas’ feelings towards TayTay, he has attended her birthday, which suggests he’s friendly enough with her. However, there’s a bit of a history there, too. Billie Eilish has made some comments in the past that hint at disapproval of Taylor’s marketing tricks, like her always dropping new limited-edition merch. Can’t say I blame her for thinking that way— it can be over the top for sure!

Speaking of which, Taylor’s new album, TS12, The Life Of A Showgirl, drops on October 3rd, and she’s already selling four different cover versions on her site. Let’s hope this doesn’t create any tension between the two artists. It would be a bummer if there’s some sort of beef, especially with Finneas trying to keep peace!

Honestly, I’d love to hear a Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift collaboration one day. Even if it’s too late for this album, Taylor is always working on new music whenever inspiration hits. Next time Finneas has a chat with T-Swift, let’s hope it’s about getting into the studio together!
