Willow Nightingale has made significant strides in AEW, and being one of the first two women to participate in an Anarchy in the Arena match is a major highlight for her. In May, she teamed up with legends including Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland, Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Katsuyori Shibata to take on the Death Riders and the Young Bucks at Double or Nothing. Willow recently shared her reflections on this monumental match during an interview with Blavity, revealing that the full weight of the experience didn’t hit her until it was all over.
“Seeing my teammates made me realize how incredible the situation was,” Willow recalled. “Someone even tweeted that if AEW were to form their own Avengers, we’d be the dream team. I thought, ‘Wow, that’s wild.’ Just being around such esteemed names like Samoa Joe and Kenny Omega, it’s hard to believe that I wasn’t just looking up to them — I’m part of that circle now.”
She emphasized that while working alongside her fellow competitors, who she viewed as much more seasoned, she aimed to soak in all she could. From their posture to their communication styles, every detail mattered to her, especially since there aren’t many long-serving female wrestlers in the industry.
“Women’s wrestling is evolving, and you’re beginning to see females enjoying longer careers,” she noted. “However, when you think about the trailblazers who have been doing this for over 20 years, it isn’t common to see those same lengths of careers among women.”
