SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The police officers involved in the shooting incident from November of last year will not be charged.

The individual involved, Daniel Lynn Meinhart, has been recognized as a known member of a white supremacist gang and was actively wanted on multiple felony warrants and violations of probation.

In November 2024, U.S. Marshals were present near the intersection of 2100 South and 900 East to arrest Meinhart, who carried several felony warrants against him and was sought for his probation breaches.

Today, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill revealed further details related to the event. According to reports, Meinhart crashed into a light pole while trying to evade capture, immobilizing his vehicle. When officers approached, Meinhart did not follow their instructions.

The officers reported seeing an object in Meinhart’s hands that they believed could be a weapon. This prompted them to discharge their firearms, resulting in multiple shots fired at Meinhart. He was then taken to the hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening.

Following a thorough examination of all related footage, Gill determined that the use of force by the officers in relation to the shooting was justified.
