It was an emotional moment for Jacob Elordi at the Venice Film Festival. This 28-year-old star couldn’t contain his tears during the premiere of his movie, “Frankenstein,” which earned a heartwarming standing ovation lasting between 13 and 14 minutes on Saturday.
Dressed sharply in a classic black suit and bowtie, Elordi placed his hand on his chest, gazing at the crowd with a mix of gratitude and joy. He wiped away tears as the moment was captured on video.
The Australian actor celebrated with a spontaneous dance, sharing laughs with his co-stars Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth.
During the extended applause, Isaac, 46, gave Elordi a supportive kiss on the cheek, while director Guillermo del Toro shared heartfelt embraces with both actors, according to reports.
This was a significant red carpet moment for Elordi, marking his first major public appearance following his breakup with Olivia Jade Giannulli.
Earlier, he participated in a photocall for the horror classic in a stylish all-white ensemble.
In this adaptation, Elordi plays the iconic monstrous character from Mary Shelley’s tale, sharing the screen with Isaac and Goth, alongside a fantastic supporting cast including Christopher Waltz, Felix Kammerer, and Ralph Ineson.
Elordi revealed to Variety that he endured up to 10 hours in makeup to transform into his eerie character.
“There are many layers to the costume,” Elordi explained. “At birth, he wears almost nothing. Then, as he experiences pain, his posture reflects that journey.”
Having joined the project as a late replacement for Andrew Garfield, Elordi admitted that meeting the legendary del Toro via Zoom filled him with anxiety, humorously describing his dilemma over what to wear for their first virtual meeting.
The anticipation of hearing back from del Toro was “the most excruciating nine days of my life” until he learned he got the role.
Mark your calendars: “Frankenstein” will open in select theaters on October 17 before streaming on Netflix starting November 7.
