SEOUL (Reuters) – In an announcement made by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the nation is set to unveil a new strategy that seeks to advance both nuclear and traditional military strength. This revelation comes as he geared up for a key meeting of North Korea’s ruling party, as reported by the state news outlet KCNA on Saturday.
During recent visits to weapons research facilities on Thursday and Friday, Kim articulated that “the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea will advocate for a dual approach, enhancing both nuclear arsenals and conventional forces as part of national defense efforts,” KCNA emphasized.
Moreover, on Friday, Kim supervised a military shooting exercise and toured a site where new hospital facilities are being constructed, according to KCNA.
This surge of domestic activity from Kim follows a significant visit to Beijing earlier this month, marking his appearance at the largest international multilateral gathering yet. During that trip, he engaged with notable leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, showcasing his rising global presence.
