Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil is shedding light on a health crisis that put a pause on the band’s plans.
Honesty is the best policy, and in a recent chat with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, he revealed that he suffered a serious stroke last Christmas, which had the potential to end his stage career.
“I had a stroke that hit me hard,” he said. “My entire left side was paralyzed.”

Neil recounted how he went to bed feeling perfectly fine on December 25, but when he awoke the next day, nothing was the same. “I tried to get out of bed, and it just wouldn’t happen,” he revealed.
“Learning to walk again was no easy feat,” he added. “The doctors were skeptical about me returning to the stage. But I told them, ‘Just watch me!'”
During this difficult time, the band made adjustments, cancelling the initial dates of their residency so Neil could focus on his recovery. “Mötley decided to push back the residency so I could get back on my feet,” he noted.
In fact, back in March, Mötley Crüe announced that they would delay their Las Vegas residency to fall due to a medical procedure that Neil’s doctors recommended.
At home in Nashville, Neil poured himself into physical therapy. “I went from needing help to get to the bathroom to finally being able to use a wheelchair. After that, I graduated to a walker, then a cane, and now I’m back on my own! But believe me, it was like a full-time job just getting to feel normal again.”
“It was quite the challenge convincing my brain and legs to sync up. You think you’re walking, but your legs just won’t cooperate,” he explained.
Despite the struggles, Neil remained determined. He focused on working out, even training with a football coach, and pushing himself with “a lot of running.” Now he’s feeling optimistic about his progress.
“I’m at about 90-95% back to where I was. It feels fantastic, and I won’t stop until I hit my peak again,” he said.

Neil made his comeback on stage in August, delivering a performance at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston alongside Bret Michaels. Just recently, he and Mötley Crüe played their first rescheduled show in Las Vegas.
Before the concert, Neil discussed the setlist with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, explaining it would include not just the hits but some deeper cuts that fans love.
The set showcased classics like “Dr. Feelgood,” “Kickstart My Heart,” and “Girls, Girls, Girls.” Neil described the show as encapsulating the whole Mötley Crüe lifestyle, adding, “I am determined to get through this challenge to the best of my ability!”
