Get ready for a game-changer in the electric vehicle scene! BMW has just launched its impressive iX3, the inaugural model in its Neue Klasse lineup of electric rides, powered by the coolest sixth-generation eDrive technology. This all-electric sports activity vehicle, or as BMW likes to label them—road-focused SUV—comes with some seriously mind-blowing specs. We’re talking a jaw-dropping 500-mile (800 km) range and super-fast 400 kW charging along with a host of next-gen tech features inside.
The BMW iX3 50 xDrive is set to hit UK showrooms on March 7, 2026, with a starting price tag of £58,755 (around $79,400).
Oliver Zipse, the BMW Chairman, is beyond excited about this Neue Klasse. He considers it the company’s boldest step into the future. This class of vehicles aims to totally redefine what cars can be, boosting technology, performance, and design to a whole new level. Plus, the iX3 is just the start, leading nearly 40 new and updated models slated for release by 2027 that will all feature these innovative upgrades.
So, what makes the iX3 tick? At its core is BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, combining high-efficiency electric motors and a cutting-edge 800V architecture with innovative cylindrical battery cells. As a result, we’re looking at a fantastic WLTP range of up to 500 miles (800 km), which makes it the longest-range EV available in the UK at launch.
The 800V system allows for ultra-fast DC charging, hitting up to 400 kW. This means drivers can charge up to 231 miles (372 km) of range in a mere 10 minutes! And if you’re charging from 10% to 80%, it only takes 21 minutes. While many charging stations in the UK currently max out at 400V, it’s only a matter of time before that’ll change to accommodate the newer, speedy EVs. Plus, the iX3 comes with all-wheel drive and reaches 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.9 seconds, so it’s got some serious kick!
Step inside, and the iX3 is all about a revolutionary change in design compared to current BMW models. A stunning new Panoramic iDrive head-up display stretches across the entire windshield. Inside, four super-smart computers, one cheekily named the Heart of Joy, manage driving dynamics, energy recovery, infotainment, and braking tasks.
Outwardly, the iX3 boasts a fresh design language that pays tribute to the legendary 1960s Neue Klasse. Expect sharp lines, expansive glass surfaces, and a bolder front-end look featuring a modern spin on BMW’s signature kidney grille along with sleek twin headlights.
The iX3 50 xDrive launches with three trim models: iX3, iX3 M Sport, and iX3 M Sport Pro, all equipped with standard 20-inch alloy wheels and comfy heated front seats. Don’t worry if that’s not quite right for you; BMW has plans to roll out more models down the line, including a new entry-level option, after the launch of 2026.
