A young man has received a prison sentence for his involvement in violent disorder and arson related to last year’s events in Harehills, Leeds.
On Tuesday, Lewis McArdle-Rose, just 20 years old, was given a 20-month prison sentence by the Leeds Crown Court after he admitted to both charges.
The chaos erupted in Harehills back in July 2024 when police were called to assist social workers who were taking four children into emergency foster care. This situation quickly escalated as hundreds of local residents hit the streets, leading to the incendiary incident where a double-decker bus was set ablaze.
Residing on North Parkway in Seacroft, McArdle-Rose became the 29th individual convicted in connection with the disturbance, according to the West Yorkshire Police.
He had previously appeared in court alongside a 16-year-old girl, who, last month, was placed on a rehabilitative program that will last 12 months.
Overall, the unrest resulted in a total of 85 arrests, with 46 individuals facing charges, as reported by a spokesperson from West Yorkshire Police.
