Police Seek Help for ‘Post Malone’ Lookalike Thief

The Irvine Police Department in sunny Southern California is trying to get the community’s help in tracking down a suspect that they liken to a certain celebrity! Just like the FBI has mastered, they’ve reached out for assistance in locating an unknown individual accused of stealing packages from a fancy apartment complex.

Recently released security footage captured the suspect, showcasing a man with light skin, a brown beard, and some distinctive face tattoos. While he’s wearing a ball cap that obscures his full appearance, those tattoos, along with his beard, have given the police a little clue as to his identity.

In an amusing twist, the police referred to this wanted thief as ‘Postal Malone’ in their press release. They mention that just the day before, cops were investigating a stolen package case from Spectrum apartments. Apparently, this guy has a knack for snagging anything postal-related.

“We want to avoid going in ‘circles’ on this case; we’re hoping that your tips can lead us in the right direction, so we can say we ‘had some help.’ If you happen to recognize this guy, please reach out to Detective Ward at mward@cityofirvine.org,” they wrote in their announcement.

Fun fact: the FBI has pulled off some pretty creative names for their suspects too. Nicknames like ‘The Bad-Breath Bandit’ and ‘The Pink Lady Bandit’ come to mind. In an interview from 2010, FBI Special Agent Harry Trombitas shared some insight into why they give out these quirky nicknames—not only do they help investigators remember details, but they also grab public attention, which can lead to capturing the not-so-run-of-the-mill criminals.

Sometimes these names hit the mark and sometimes they miss spectacularly, like the not-so-flattering ‘Dirty Bieber’! According to Trombitas, that one popped up after a witness said the suspect looked like a scruffy Justin Bieber. Beat that for creativity!
