President Trump’s speech at the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, wasn’t without its interruptions. Lawmakers were kicked out after they shouted slogans while Trump was speaking.

The Jerusalem Post reported that Ayman Odeh, an Arab Israeli and member of the Hadash alliance, along with Ofer Cassif, a far-left politician also from the Hadash coalition, were the ones protesting.

As he was removed, Odeh was holding a sign that read “Recognize Palestine.” He later shared on X, highlighting the need for a Palestinian state as a fundamental demand, stating, “There are two peoples here, and neither is going anywhere.” This message reflects a sentiment numerous members of the international community support.

Cassif, in his own X post, emphasized that their protest aimed to “demand justice” and accused the Israeli government of practices akin to occupation and apartheid against Palestinians.

His statement included a strong call to action: “Refuse to be occupiers! Resist the government of bloodshed!”

On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has firmly denied recognizing a Palestinian state, even as he backed Trump’s ambitious 20-point peace plan which touches on establishing a sovereign Palestine.

In a broader context, Trump hasn’t aligned with the majority of the international opinion regarding the recognition of Palestine either.

This protest unfolded while Trump acknowledged the return of the last surviving hostages held by Hamas since their kidnapping during the attacks back on October 7, 2023, marking a significant step in the movement toward peace in Gaza.
