Early on Friday, October 3rd, the Santa Rosa Police Department responded to a call that led them to a shocking scene on a roadway near the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. They found a man laying unresponsive, and it was soon confirmed that he had suffered from a fatal gunshot wound.

According to the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office, the victim was identified as Mark Calcagni, a 60-year-old local resident and well-known figure in San Francisco’s nightlife scene, specifically as the general manager of the iconic Condor Club. He was discovered just a short distance—about 350 feet—from his home.

Despite ongoing investigations, police have yet to make any arrests or identify a suspect or weapon. Authorities have stated that they don’t believe there is any immediate threat to the public, but the search is very much on for whoever is responsible for this tragic event.

Calcagni played a significant role in shaping the nightlife culture in San Francisco, especially at the renowned Condor Club, often touted as the nation’s first topless bar. Apart from his work at the Condor, he also managed a nearby establishment known as Vanity San Francisco.

Wolfgang Welch, who has recently stepped into a managerial role at Vanity, called Calcagni an influential personality in the adult entertainment industry, describing him as a ‘larger-than-life figure’ who had made a mark in the city’s history.
