In an exciting twist for military technology, the American firm Auterion, in collaboration with an undisclosed Ukrainian company, has rolled out a cutting-edge kamikaze drone packed with AI for self-guidance. This amazing news comes from Defense Express, which highlights the successful tests the drone has completed.
Meet the ALM-20, our new high-tech friend on the battlefield. This drone is capable of covering a whopping 1,600 kilometers to hit its target and boasts a substantial 45 kg warhead. It uses visual targeting with the help of sophisticated artificial intelligence algorithms to lock onto its objectives.
The team behind this innovative craft has noted that the full scope of tests it underwent included everything from ground launches to long-distance travel and detonation processes. Even in the absence of satellite tracking, the ALM-20 can still zero in on its target thanks to its nifty Skynode N onboard computer.
The physical design of the ALM-20 is reminiscent of the Shahed-136, complete with a nose camera, extra antennas, and an eco-friendly electric motor. And here’s the good news: the production of these drones is gearing up for mass manufacturing!
According to Auterion, they are partnering with the US Department of Defense and other collaborators to ramp up into larger-scale production. They plan to set up production lines across Ukraine, the United States, and Germany, all while fostering partnerships that will help boost output rates.
In related developments, Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, recently revealed plans to achieve a production rate of 1,000 interceptor drones every single day very soon, positioning their response strategy against nighttime assaults. Additionally, Ukraine and the UK are in discussions to establish joint production efforts for interceptor drones aimed at tackling Russian Shahed drones.
