Arrest in South Belfast Following Burglary and Assault Incident

A man has been taken into custody after reportedly locking himself in a room following an assault on a home resident during a burglary in South Belfast.

According to statements from the PSNI, a police officer was injured when he was thrown against a wall while trying to apprehend the suspect.

This incident unfolded in the Lenaghan Crescent area during the early morning hours of Friday.

At approximately 4 a.m., police received a report that an intruder had entered the house through a window on the upper floor.

The male resident was attacked during the break-in and suffered a head injury requiring medical attention, but thankfully, the injury is not considered life-threatening at this stage.

The suspect, described as being in his 20s, barricaded himself in a room before police managed to arrest him on charges of burglary and common assault.

The PSNI spokesperson reported, “He was also arrested for assaulting a police officer after he slammed the officer’s head against a wall. He is currently in custody and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.”
