Jon Stewart recently shared his thoughts on Donald Trump showing up in Jeffrey Epstein emails, arguing, “It’s clear it’s legit since his supporters are working so hard to divert the conversation away.”
On a recent segment of The Daily Show, Stewart dived into what he called the “completely normal and not at all sketchy handling of Epstein’s files,” which might be revealed thanks to a House of Representatives vote on Tuesday, November 18.
Many new emails involve Trump, who’s known to have had ties with the disgraced financier years back, one of which includes Epstein suggesting that the president “knew about the girls.”
On the other hand, Trump, who stated he was open to signing a bill to release these documents if it’s passed, told the press last week that he “knows nothing” regarding the emails.
According to Stewart, “The Epstein situation isn’t a hoax created by the Democrats, and the fact that Trump’s team is scrambling to shift focus tells you it’s serious. Meanwhile, Fox News hardly touched the subject.”
He pointed out how Fox spent hours covering topics like the “socialist takeover of Seattle,” the government’s plan to reduce the penny, and other quirky issues, completely ignoring the Epstein emails.
Stewart remarked on Trump’s “panic” when questioned about the emails, explaining, “If he had nothing to hide, he could have classified and released those documents whenever he wanted. And guess what? He already said that.”
He played a clip where Trump talked on Fox News back in September 2022, stating, “As the president, you can declassify just by saying, ‘It’s declassified.’”
However, Stewart emphasized that just because Trump is mentioned in the Epstein emails does not mean he’s guilty of anything.
The House of Representatives might soon vote on a measure that would mandate the Justice Department to disclose files relating to Epstein.
Trump confirmed on November 17 that he would support the bill if it advances through both the House and Senate – but insisted he had “nothing to do with” Epstein, highlighting that “Those connections are with the Democrats.”
