Recently, George Clooney has made headlines, revealing that his once-strong friendship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has taken a downturn.
George and his wife, Amal Clooney, were among the celebrities who attended the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2018, held at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
However, new reports suggest that the 64-year-old actor has been distancing himself from the royal couple, according to close sources.
This shift in their relationship has been fascinating, especially considering how warm things used to be. Meghan, 44, and Harry, 41, appear to have seen their bond reduce over time.
This connection first emerged when the Clooneys joined the Sussexes for what many described as the ‘wedding of the year’. The Express now shares insights on this friendship.
Post-ceremony, the Cloones were spotted celebrating with the newlyweds at their reception at Frogmore House.
Yet, despite their friendly appearance, insider information indicated that the Clooneys admitted to another guest that they weren’t particularly close with Meghan and Harry.
Soon after, Rachel Johnson, who is the sister of Boris Johnson, shared an interesting tidbit in AirMail: As Carolyn Bartholomew waited for the wedding ceremony to start, she asked the Clooneys how they knew the couple. Their response was, “We don’t” — which likely surprised some attendees. Despite this, Meghan and Amal reportedly deepened their friendship after the royal wedding.

A source shared with People Magazine in 2018 that “Meghan and Amal have known each other for some time and share many common interests. Amal has been guiding Meghan as she adjusts to life in London. Their friendship felt very natural from the outset.”
During this phase, the Sussexes enjoyed a holiday in Lake Como, Italy, staying at the glamorous home of the Clooneys.
Additionally, Royal correspondent Omid Scobie noted that Harry and George bonded over their shared passion for motorcycles.
“George and Harry liked to check out George’s motorcycle collection; they even played basketball together,” Scobie reported.
As for George, he opened up about his ties with Harry and Meghan back in 2019, telling MailOnline about their frequent dinner get-togethers. “We don’t live too far apart. We have dinners and that kind of stuff, so we’re buddies for the same reasons anyone becomes friends — they’re really good people,” he explained. “They are incredibly sweet and caring, and they’ll make fantastic parents.”
During an interview on Good Morning Britain, he defended Meghan against the harsh media scrutiny she faced after marrying into the royal family, stating the coverage was “a bit unjust and unfair”.
In the same broadcast, he commended Meghan as being a “kind and intelligent young woman”. However, whispers started circulating last year that George’s friendship with the pair was suddenly disappearing, startling royal fans.
By 2023, reports emerged that the Clooneys had formed new connections with King Charles, even attending a Prince’s Trust event in London, despite Harry’s strained relations with his father since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
A source alleged, “The Clooneys clearly wish to maintain a good relationship with the King and the entire Royal Family”.
