Meet the Stunning David Hoffman, Known as the ‘Emu Guy’ from Liberty Mutual

Estimated read time 4 min read

Liberty Mutual really shook things up in 2019 when they launched an eye-catching ad campaign featuring a guy named Doug and his feathered buddy, LiMu Emu. As the ads became even more outrageous – think streaking and parachuting – folks couldn’t help but wonder about the good-looking guy wearing those iconic aviators. Just like Dean Winters, known for his role as Mayhem in Allstate ads, David Hoffman deserves his own fan following, especially considering how dashing he looks off-screen.

In a recent post on Instagram from January 7, 2025, Hoffman graced the cover of Boston University College of Fine Arts Magazine, showing off his handsome face. He shared that a marketing executive teased him that Doug could become the next “Tony the Tiger.” Just imagine that!

Of course, Hoffman’s rise to stardom didn’t happen overnight. He revealed in the magazine interview, “I had so many different visions of what would happen, and there were so many valleys… And yet, in the end, I’m in a sweet spot as an actor, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.” Plus, many fans might recognize him from various shows even before he snagged his current gig.

David Hoffman’s Journey as a Guest Star

According to his IMDb page, Hoffman has had a pretty busy career, even if many roles were quite small. One memorable show he was part of was “I Live With Models,” where he played Tommy from 2015 to 2017. Drawing on his comedy training from The Groundlings, he found himself cast as a hand model surrounded by traditional fashion models. Although that show might be a hidden gem in the U.S., fans can catch him guest-starring in episodes of popular sitcoms.

Back in 2011, he was seen as the Haircut Guy on “New Girl,” and he also shared the screen with Chris O’Dowd in “Bridesmaids,” albeit briefly as the Doorman. He had roles in both episodes of the canceled show “2 Broke Girls” as a character named Gordon, and even made an appearance in “Modern Family” as Richard in 2017.

Add to this mix his credits in video game voice acting, including titles like “The Darkness 2” (2012) and “Rise of the Tomb Raider” (2015), and you can see he kept himself busy even before hitting the big time. Now that David’s experiencing success, he seems to treasure his friends and family more than ever.

A Family Man at Heart

According to his Instagram, David tied the knot with Jamie Kowal back in 2019. Fast forward to June 2023, the couple welcomed their son, Sonny Malone Hoffman, and David shared in a post just how much joy Sonny has brought into their lives. On his Instagram, you can find multiple sweet posts where David highlights the time spent with his family, along with using his new fame to make a positive impact in his community.

In 2023, he and his fellow Groundlings even helped raise funds for the Hollywood Food Coalition. David also proudly hosted the Military Child of the Year awards in both 2022 and 2023, a cause close to his heart since he grew up in a military family. His LinkedIn profile shares that he spent his childhood bouncing around different Army bases and even worked on an animated project called “Army Brat” about his experiences.

David even presented awards at the Creative Arts Emmys in September 2025. As captured in one special post on Instagram, he perfectly balances his thriving career with his devotion to family, giving a shout-out to his “beautiful, statuesque wife” (see the last photo). Here’s hoping David maintains his golden heart as he continues to shine in his career!
