The quadriceps femoris, despite being some of the largest muscles in our bodies, can sure feel quite fragile at times, right?
Quad injuries happen way more often than you’d think. They don’t discriminate – affecting all sorts of people including you, your neighbor, pro athletes, and yes, even celebrity chefs.
Take Guy Fieri, for instance. He’s probably one of the most recognized TV chefs, famed for his upbeat energy and vibrant ‘Flavor Town’ slogan. Right now, though, he’s dealing with a serious injury to his quad.
Due to this mishap, the usually lively Fieri found himself confined to a wheelchair.
In a chat with Fox News, he detailed how this odd accident led to a nasty quadriceps tear.
He explained, “I slipped down a set of stairs, one foot went forward while the other got caught on a threshold. It stretched me out so much I looked like I was doing the splits, but then my right leg compressed and, well, it didn’t end well. The doctor said after 20 years of practice, he’s never seen a tear like this in the most robust part of the quad – right in the middle!”
Knowing his flair for words, he summed it up succinctly: “Yeah, it sucked.”
Moreover, Fieri mentioned, “Typically, you would expect a muscle tear to happen at the tendon or for the tendon to separate from the bone. This was a complete explosion right in the heart of the muscle.”
At 57, Fieri is now reliant on both a wheelchair and crutches during his recovery phase.
The Food Network personality was rushed to surgery right after the accident to keep the ripped muscle from retracting too much.
Oh, and to add a little salt to the wound, this injury happened while he was busy filming his brand-new show, “Flavor Town Food Fight.”
“Right when we had everything set up – chefs in town, a crew of 125 people ready to shoot – I was in surgery. We quickly pivoted and used some creative filming methods to work around the mishap. But it’s been quite the experience. Now I’m at my ranch, used to doing hikes and soaking in nature’s beauty,” he shared with Fox News.
Fieri humorously described this accident as a real “damper” on his otherwise exciting journey with this new project.
True to his optimistic nature, he hasn’t even mentioned the injury on his social media. His most recent post on X simply retweeted a quip from his Flavor Town brand about where music sensation Taylor Swift might get married to NFL star Travis Kelce.
On top of everything, there’s some sad news for the Fieri family: Guy admitted this injury will keep him out of the kitchen for Thanksgiving. Luckily, his son is all set to take his place during this festive time.”
