JD Vance made a splash on the eve of Thanksgiving, but his opinions on a certain bird might not win him any fans among turkey farmers.
On Wednesday,he dropped by Fort Campbell, right on the Kentucky-Tennessee border, to join military members for an early holiday feast alongside his family: wife, Usha, daughter Mirabel, and sons Ewan and Vivek.

After being introduced by Kid Rock, who joked about hoping to see him as the next president, Vance took the stage and delivered some typical patriotic talk—but he quickly pivoted to a question that caught everyone off guard.

“So, who actually likes turkey?” he asked, challenging the audience and eliciting cheers from some soldiers. “If you raised your hands, you’re all full of it.”
His reasoning? “Think about it—when does anyone randomly roast an 18-pound turkey on just a lovely summer day? Nobody does. Because let’s be honest: turkey doesn’t really taste all that great,” he asserted.
Despite his turkey bashing, Vance turned patriotic, adding, “On the most American of holidays, we’re going to cook a turkey, because that’s what we Americans do. We transform this massive American bird and try all sorts of methods to make it decent.”
He even shared his plan to deep-fry a turkey on Thursday, hinting again at his less-than-favorable view of the dish. “Look, if you need to deep-fry something to improve its flavor, it’s probably not that good to start with,” he said. “That’s a solid food rule. Chicken is always good, whether deep-fried or not.”
It’s clear he has his food preferences, but many on social media weren’t thrilled with his turkey tirade.
