It seems that Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are not too happy right now. Their son, Dylan Douglas, found himself in an awkward situation during a political discussion on CNN that left him visibly shaken and embarrassed.
During a segment on CNN’s NewsNight, Republican strategist Scott Jennings didn’t hold back and questioned Dylan directly. This led to a pretty heated interaction that undermined Dylan’s statement about Republicans being solely at fault for the current political crisis. According to sources sharing with Rob Stuter, the Hollywood pair felt that the whole thing was “unfair and exploitative,” and they felt their son was put in an intense debate he wasn’t ready for.
In a recent conversation, Zeta-Jones allegedly expressed to friends that CNN set her son up for a fall, with Douglas feeling that the network went too far by allowing this moment to become an on-air embarrassment. They are so incensed about the incident that there are talks of them considering a boycott of the network entirely.
One insider bluntly stated, “Dylan’s never been spoken to like that in his entire life. He’s always been the golden boy — adored, protected. CNN gave him a taste of the real world, and his parents hated every second of it,” according to Rob Stuter.
The debate between Jennings and Dylan revolved around the Senate’s funding legislation and the historic government shutdown. Jennings clearly made his points known regarding which party actually voted to keep the government open, while Dylan attempted to pivot the conversation to cuts in food assistance. Jennings responded firmly, reminding Dylan that Republicans had voted to support SNAP funding 15 times, while Democrats aimed to defund it 15 times.
It’s important to note that Senate Democrats had a hand in extending the shutdown in the lead-up to Thanksgiving, leaving many Americans feeling the harsh impact as travel disruptions began to unfold. President Trump signed a funding bill on November 12, officially ending a 43-day government shutdown — the longest in U.S. history.
As of now, there has been no response from Zeta-Jones’ management or Michael Douglas’ reps regarding the incident according to The Daily Caller News Foundation.
