On the evening of December 15, Sabrina Ionescu and her husband Hroniss Grasu faced an unsettling situation as their California home was burglarized by two masked intruders. The thieves managed to swipe luxury handbags valued at around $60,000 during the break-in.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that this burglary took place at about 8 p.m. While the couple was not at home, their security alarm sounded as the robbers attempted to force entry. Reports indicate that a tool was employed to break through a glass door.

A report from NBC 4 Los Angeles stated that the two burglars were donned in ski masks during the crime. The LAPD has since accessed surveillance footage from the property as they continue to search for the culprits, but no arrests have been made yet.

For context, Ionescu, who plays for the New York Liberty in the WNBA, has made a name for herself on the court, being the top pick in the 2020 WNBA draft. Meanwhile, her husband, Hroniss Grasu, previously played as a lineman in the NFL, notably being a third-round pick who once suited up for the Chicago Bears in 2015. The pair said, “I do” earlier in March 2024 during a wedding ceremony in Laguna Beach, a year after Grasu proposed.

In a past interview with People, Ionescu shared how special the wedding was, as they paused their lives for two weeks to celebrate with loved ones.

This incident ties into a troubling trend, as more high-profile athletes have reported similar break-ins. Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown and WWE personalities Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins have also fallen victim to burglaries, while NFL players like Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have faced comparable experiences.
