Not so long after moving from the U.S. to the U.K., Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are ready for yet another change. They’ve put their estate, Kitesbridge Farm, on the market for a whopping 22.5 million, around $30 million, according to Andrew Barnes, their listing agent from collage and U.K. Sotheby’s International Realty. Ellen and Portia acquired Kitesbridge for approximately $20 million in the spring of 2024 and sharply revamped the property. Now, they are heading to a bigger, modern estate nearby.

The pair chose their new digs partly because there’s space for Portia’s beloved horses. As Ellen shared: “When we decided to settle here for good, we knew Portia couldn’t be without her horses. We had to find a place complete with a horse facility and grazing areas for them.”

Located in beautiful Swinbrook, Oxfordshire, Kitesbridge boasts about 16,600 square feet spread across multiple buildings, with several merely connected by stylish glass walkways. The main house, which features six bedrooms, dates back to the 1700s. It surrounds a charming landscaped courtyard and connects to a quaint two-bedroom guesthouse. An expansive party barn with its own pub also exists on the property. Additionally, there’s another building that houses a heated swimming pool and gym.

When the couple bought Kitesbridge, it had potential but needed quite a bit of TLC. Barnes noted that renovations usually could take 12 to 18 months, yet Ellen and Portia took mere 4 months thanks to a team of around 70 workers.

The stay at Kitesbridge turned out to be short-lived, as they moved out only about a month later in search of a property that offered additional acreage—one that resembled a house you’d find in Malibu, as Barnes describes.

The completed Kitesbridge effortlessly marries its historical charm with contemporary design, something synonymous with Ellen and Portia’s style. The rustic abode features exposed-beam ceilings, sturdy stone walls, and cozy farmhouse furnishings.

With the charm and elegance, it’s no surprise Kitesbridge is one of the priciest estates on the Cotswolds market. This home is among a select few around the area with a luxury level typically found in Los Angeles or luxury spots in California, making it poised for significant attention, thanks to the overall quality of its rejuvenation.

Barnes pointed out that the main house stands out for its bright interior, diverging from the typical dark vibes often found in older U.K. properties, thanks to the house’s intelligent design around a sunny central courtyard.

After moving to the U.K. in 2024 following President Trump’s re-election, Ellen, who previously ran “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” until 2022, expressed at a Cheltenham theater that initially they only sought a vacation home, but circumstances prompted a change of heart. “We arrived a day before the election, and after what we witnessed on social media, we said, ‘We’re not going back,'” she reminisced.

In August 2024, they sold their Santa Barbara property—a lucrative arrangement, going for $96 million after being purchased for around $70 million just 18 months earlier.

Despite dataset consideration that Kitesbridge Farm had faced some flooding along with other nearby properties in late 2024, DeGeneres refuted those claims swiftly on social media, with Barnes assuring potential buyers that Kitesbridge resides in a favorable area free from such issues—notably perched on higher ground.

De Rossi and DeGeneres have built a reputation for their high-end renovations and quick flips of multiple homes in both L.A. and Montecito. “I keep tweaking my projects until there’s nothing left to enhance,” she shares in her 2015 book, “Home.” “Once it’s all finished, I sell the canvas and go explore my next project.”

The Cotswolds region has historically drawn the attention of celebrities, but it’s elevated recently—with big-name buyers such as DeGeneres and TV personality Jeremy Clarkson. The surge of interest is mainly tied to the Covid-19 pandemic, which had many more folks seeking out homes in the area, especially with the shift towards remote work giving them added flexibility to enjoy the Cotswolds lifestyle.
