Introducing the New Charging System of Google Pixel Watch 4

Recently, we shared details about the specs of the Pixel Watch 4, which includes both 41mm and 45mm variants, and highlighted a cool new charging feature. Initially, we had limited information about it, but now it’s clear that this development is significant.

The Pixel Watch 4 series sports a completely revamped charger, which means that older Pixel Watch chargers won’t work with this latest version. Google repositioned the charging contacts from the back of the watch to the left side instead.

There’s now a noticeable indentation on the left side, opposite the crown, featuring two charging contacts. Interestingly, there won’t be any charging contacts on the watch’s backside due to the addition of a new array of sensors with the Pixel Watch 3 model.

Thanks to this design change, the Pixel Watch 4 can charge on its side, which makes it easier to check the battery status while it’s on a table. Plus, this new charging method is likely contributing to a 25% increase in charging speed across the Pixel Watch 4 lineup.

The Move to Side Contacts: A Fixer’s Joy

We also hinted that the Pixel Watch 4 would be easier to repair than its predecessors. Previously, fixing any issues with earlier models was practically impossible. This new model allows technicians to access the backside of the watch for necessary repairs more easily, thanks to relocating the charging contacts.

This charger will come in the box with your Pixel Watch 4, but it won’t include a USB-C adapter like earlier models did. Any 5W USB-C adapter will be compatible with the charging dock.

You can also expect this charging dock to be sold separately at the Google Store, but the pricing info is yet to be announced. We anticipate it may be around $29.99, similar to the current cost of the Pixel Watch 3 charger.
