It’s with heavy hearts that we share the news of Junior Edwards’ passing. As one of the original stars of the hit series Swamp People on the History Channel, Junior’s presence will definitely be missed. The announcement came from his grandson, known as “Little” Willie Edwards, who posted the unfortunate news on Facebook.

In an emotional message, Willie reflected on the legacy of his grandfather: “Rest easy, pawpaw. I know you’re likely running your hoop nets or causing some mischief in those pearly gates. We’ll miss you more than anything and love you deeply! Until we meet again.” Alongside his words, he included a touching photo showing his hooded father, Willie Edwards, and grandfather enjoying life on a boat.

While the details surrounding his death haven’t been disclosed, earlier this month it was clear he was dealing with some health troubles.

Willie shared in a post from July 6, asking fans to keep Junior in their thoughts and prayers: “We really need a miracle, y’all… Get better for us, papa! We love you!”

Swamp People first hit the screens in 2010, showcasing Junior’s adventures in the Louisiana swamps as a dedicated alligator hunter for the first six seasons. Although he stepped away in 2015, fans were thrilled to see him return in Season 12, making a total of 100 episodes! The show’s recent 16th season concluded in April this year, with announcements that it’s set to be back in 2026.

His passing led to an outpouring of memories and condolences from his castmates. Ronnie Adams expressed his sorrow on Instagram, saying, “Praying for the Edwards family during this tough time!!! Rest in peace, Junior!!”

Ashley “Deadeye” Jones also remembered Junior in a heartfelt tribute.

She said, “The world has lost a legend! Mr. Junior Edwards has passed. Please keep the family in your prayers. He was an incredible alligator hunter and true outdoorsman! I’ll never forget the time at Duffy’s Gas Station in Pierre Part, LA when he brought in some massive gators after a long day. Glad we snapped a pic; it was a special moment!”
