French Embassy Stands by Support for a Democratic, Demilitarized Palestinian State

After France’s deputy ambassador received a stern reprimand, the French embassy responded by affirming that the country’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state aligns with its longstanding commitment to a two-state solution, where both nations can coexist peacefully and securely.

The embassy remarked, “This reflects France’s intention to push for progress without delays, especially given the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the disturbing increase in violence, settlement expansions, and annexation poses in the West Bank.”

In its statement, France emphasized its goal to use this sovereignty decision to launch a robust process that includes a clear condemnation of terrorism, particularly referencing the heinous attacks by Hamas on October 7, 2023. This step aims at facilitating the complete disarmament of Hamas while fostering the creation of a democratic, demilitarized Palestinian state that meets its obligations regarding internal reforms and the prevention of radicalization.

Furthermore, France affirmed that Israel will remain an essential partner, pledging to maintain open dialogues on critical international topics, like concerns surrounding Iran.
