Alabama Man’s Sentencing Linked to “Operation Take Back America”

Joseph Ambrose Wilburn, Jr., a 41-year-old from Mobile with a long list of criminal offenses, has just received a hefty 13-year sentence (156 months) in federal prison. His crime? Possession of firearms as a felon, which is a serious violation of the law.

This decision came from United States District Court Judge Terry F. Moore and includes a further three years of supervised release after completing the prison term.

Back on April 11, 2024, police were tipped off about an active warrant for Wilburn’s arrest, related to allegations involving a firearm in a case of kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman.

Later that day, during a traffic stop, the police caught him with two firearms in his possession.

Wilburn’s past is not clean—he has multiple felony convictions, including serious offenses for Domestic Violence and other charges, such as Criminal Trespass and Reckless Endangerment. Federal law prohibits anyone with his background from owning firearms.

He ended up facing charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm and eventually confessing to the crime.

U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello from Alabama’s Southern District publicized the sentencing news. The whole investigation was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Mobile Police.

This case falls under the larger initiative known as “Operation Take Back America,” aiming to tackle firearms crimes nationwide.
