How Meghan Markle works out

Fortunately, Markle is not one of those stars who claims she never has to exercise to maintain her figure. "I work out five times a week," she told News.com.au in 2014.

The 36-year-old has long been a runner, lacing up her shoes several times and week and crediting it as a "form of moving meditation" that "allows me to get out of my head", she told Women's Health.

In more recent years she's shifted away from pounding the pavement.

"As I’ve gotten older, running has become hard on my knees, so I can’t run outside the way I used to," Markle told Best Health. "But I’m still planning to run a marathon!" (... which seems unlikely, given her entry into the royal family.)

The actress mixes it up with yoga, crediting her instructor mother for introducing her to the practice when she was seven. Her preferred styles include "intense" vinyasa — characterised by flowing, dynamic poses — and Moksha, a form of hot yoga.

Markle has also spoken about being a devotee of Megaformer Pilates as well as Tracey Anderson's workout DVDs, especially her leg and ab workouts.

"If I don’t have time for a long workout, I’ll grab my dog and go for a quick run. Being active is my own moving meditation," she told Best Health, confessing to Women's Health that she motivates her to start an "absolutely dreadful" workout but reminding herself how "euphoric" she'll feel at the end of it.

She also told Shape she practises body positivity.

"I think being in shape means feeling confident, being as healthy as you can, and owning whatever you have, being happy with your size and being kind to yourself," she said.
