SAG Awards 2021: Viola Davis, Jason Bateman and other snubs and surprises
Usually the SAG Awards are the first of the major peer groups to hand out statues in the new year, but 2021 is proving to be even more change-inducing than 2020. The 27th Annual SAG Awards were pushed a couple of times, first due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and then when the Grammys decided to have their show on the same night SAG was planning to celebrate. This led to the WGA Awards kicking things off, with PGA following soon after. But, the additional time did not seem to affect SAG ballot outcomes by much.

So long Bridgerton, there's a new Regency-era must-watch that we can obsess over—that is, until season two rolls around.
Enter: The Nevers.
As we joyously absorb the extravagant period costumes and regal dialogue—and pine over any kind of Regé-Jean Page replacement—the series also welcomes two vastly different qualities that separates it from its counterparts: science-fiction and a heavy injection of feminism.

A six-episode series, The Nevers follows a group of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and "a mission that might change the world." Need we say more?
Following the last years of Queen Victoria's reign, London is plagued by those who have been "touched", that is, people—mostly women—who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities, some of which are useful, while others are very sinister.
But before you hit 'play', as per all period dramas, the series is filled to the brim with gasp-worthy supernatural effects, and of course, an impressive cast with some faces you're sure to recall and others that'll be hard to forget.
'THE NEVERS' CAST: WHERE YOU'VE SEEN THEM BEFORE
Curious about where you may have seen the cast of The Nevers before? Below, all the main actors in the series and their previous acting roles.
Kanit House From 'The Serpent' Was A Real Place In Bangkok
Kanit House, Charles Sobrhaj's main residence in new Netflix thriller series The Serpent, is arguably as much a character as the stars. The Bangkok location was real - and technically, you could still visit it. The Serpent, Netflix's new crime thriller limited series about the life and criminal activity of conman Charles Sobrhaj, is our latest streaming obsession. Naturally, given the series is based on true events, we're frantically Googling everything from the real story behind it, to the people and locations.

Laura Donnelly as Amalia True
A widow who can see into the future, The Nevers is basically the Victorian version of X-Men, which makes Amalia the equivalent of Professor X. Running The Orphanage, Amalia looks after women who seek refuge after gaining supernatural abilities that exclude them from society.
Laura Donnelly has previously starred as Jenny—Jamie's stubborn yet brilliant sister—in Outlander. Alongside Outlander, Donnelly has also starred in The Ferryman.

Ann Skelly as Penance Adair
Ann Skelly stars as Penance, Amalia's best friend and companion at The Orphanage. A super inventor with the ability to manipulate energy, when on missions with Amalia, she tends to be the more emotionally intelligent of the pair.
The Irish actress has previously starred in films like Kissing Candice and Rose Plays Julie, as well as TV series like Vikings and the Little Women mini-series.
Netflix's New Series 'Byron Baes' Follows Influencers Down Under
Byron Baes, Netflix's new Australian reality TV show will follow Byron Bay's Instagram influencer set. But who's in the cast of this upcoming series? After the recent successes of Selling Sunset and Bling Empire, Netflix is continuing their ride on the reality TV train. The next destination is a little more antipodean though. Announced today, Netflix's next venture is an Australian reality television drama—they're calling them 'docu-soaps' now—set in sunny Byron Bay. The series will follow a group of Australian Instagram influencers and is, naturally, titled Byron Baes.

James Norton as Hugo Swann
James Norton plays Hugo Swann, the show's iconic yet problematic bad boy. Rich, flirtatious, reckless, and a lover of sarcasm, his character is described as pansexual and provides a breath of fresh air for the rest of the characters.

The Nevers Cast 04.jpg
Olivia Williams as Lavinia Bidlow

The Nevers Cast 06.jpg

Amy Manson plays Maladie
Played by Amy Manson, Maladie loves to run around with a group of cooler-looking supernaturally gifted people causing mayhem wherever they go. She has a vendetta against the doctors who tortured and committed her, it's clear that society has wronged her in many ways.

Gia Coppola's 'Mainstream' Stars Maya Hawke, Andrew Garfield And The Dark Side Of YouTube Fame
Gia Coppola’s vlogger-focused film 'Mainstream' is already creating a buzz, not least of all for the incredible cast and zeitgeisty YouTube subject matter. There are many, many oddly alluring elements of director Gia Coppola's vlogger-focused forthcoming film Mainstream, so we'll try to keep it brief. Front and centre is the cast, a veritable who's who of zeitgeisty actors. Mainstream stars Andrew Garfield, Maya Hawke, Alexa Demie and Jason Schwartzman, as well as YouTubers Jake Paul and Patrick Starr among many others.

The Nevers Cast 10.jpg
Kiran Sonia Sawar as Harriet Kaur
Played by Kiran Sonia Sawar, Harriet is one of the older women living at the Orphanage, who is looked after by an older woman named Lucy Best. The group's mediator, Harriet lies rather low-key and given the mischief that goes down, it's likely for the best.
Sawar has previously starred in Black Mirror's "Crocodile" episode, as well as Deep State, Next of Kin, Silent Witness and the BBC film Murdered By My Father.
The Nevers Cast 12.jpg
Anna Devlin as Miss Primrose Chattoway
Anna Devlin plays Miss Primrose, another woman who lives at Amalia's orphanage. While she may be young, she is also very big—so big that she's literally a ten-foot tall giant. Unlike the rest of the "touched" characters, Miss Primrose can't hide her supernatural powers from society, which makes things rather difficult for her.
Devlin has previously appeared in the Syfy series 12 Monkeys and the film All The Money in the World.
The Nevers is currently available to stream on Binge in Australia. Sign up to the streaming service to be the first to watch, and catch up on series like Big Little Lies and Sex And The City.
