Stolen truck snaps power pole during Bruce Highway chase A stolen truck snapped a power pole in half, sending 1700 properties into darkness overnight, during a 120-kilometre police chase along the Bruce Highway. The truck was allegedly driven erratically from Gympie to Caboolture and the chase was brought to an end after about 3½ hours when spike strips took out the truck's tyres. The vehicle was reported stolen from Gooburrum, north of Bundaberg, on Saturday night and involved in a petrol drive-off at Gin Gin, about 50 kilometres west, about 3.40pm on Sunday.

The Bureau of Meteorology today issued a thunderstorm warning for the state, it has since been cancelled for regional parts, but remains in place in the Hunter and Illawarra.

“So glad I wasn’t home to see the dust storm today. Sand over dust any day,” wrote one Temora local on Instagram.

“The weather is extreme out here, and I always leave Currawinya with much more respect for the wildlife that manages to survive and thrive in this harsh country,” said another who weathered the dust.

“We want rain!” wrote another alongside a photo of the dust, clearly wishing the thunderstorm brought with it more than wind.

As of late this afternoon all but about 50 customers had their power restored.

It was only last week residents near Dubbo were taking to social media to share photos of a similar dust-storm in their area.
