A woman has been caught driving with 10 unrestrained children in the Northern Territory. Police spotted the woman driving on Sadadeen Road in Sadadeen - which is in the state's centre and east of Alice Springs - last Thursday and observed children jumping around in the cabin.

It comes after a video of a four-year-old riding on the roof racks of his mum's car went viral on social media.

A spokesperson for the mother told media, she had no clue her autistic son had climbed onto the roof of the family's Holden Captiva.

"The mum was blindsided, didn't see it. As soon as she would have been aware of it, she would have stopped the vehicle," said Gerry Georgatos from the National Indigenous Critical Response Service.

The mum, who only wants to be known as Erica, is now fighting a charge of dangerous driving.
