Mayor of a Mexican town is assassinated just 90 MINUTES after being sworn into office A mayor in central Mexico was shot dead just 90 minutes after his New Year's Day oath of office ceremony. Alejandro Aparicio Santiago had just been sworn in the indigenous town of Tlaxiaco in the state of Oaxaca on Tuesday morning when two men approached started shooting at him and three other politicians. Aparicio Santiago was traveling to the a meeting a city hall at 11.30am when he was attacked by the two gunmen, according to the state prosecutor's office. Villagers quickly jumped into action and apprehended one of the suspects, who has not been identified.

Man airlifted with gunshot wound after hunting trip © RACQ LifeFlight Rescue RACQ LifeFlight Rescue treated a man with gunshot wound to the chest in a hunting incident on the Southern Downs in Queensland. A man has been airlifted after suffering an accidental gunshot wound to the chest in a hunting incident in Queensland's Southern Downs.

An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue spokeswoman said the man in his 20s was climbing off a quad bike when another person in the group accidentally discharged a firearm on Saturday.

The bullet struck the man on the left side of his chest while he was on a property at Leyburn, about 70 kilometres south-west of Warwick.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics were called to the incident and met the man, who was driven to the intersection of Murphy and Toowoomba Karara Road at 9.15pm to be treated.

The patient was stabilised on scene by road crews and was then airlifted in a serious but stable condition to Princess Alexandra Hospital by RACQ LifeFlight Rescue.

A critical care doctor and paramedic on board were on board.

The rescue crew said the patient was able to talk to his wife, who was also on the scene, before takeoff.
