Yes, he was an innocent murder victim, but he was also a lot more than that. A father to five and a grandfather to two. A man who loved his job, the beach, and his family. He had a lot to live for and it was taken from him.

What has annoyed the Baldock family over the years is, because of the graphic and sensational nature of his death, the stories, books and magazine articles have always been about his killer.

Daughter Tracy still remembers, after 30 years, how dedicated her dad was to his family.

“He loved playing with the grandchildren,” she told 9News.

“He was always playing when you went over there. We had swings in the back.

“Everything would be cleared out of the fridge and (we would) put on a pizza and sometimes you had to run. That was his favourite meal.” Tracy told 9News through laughter.

She also remembers her dad’s love of darts. Tragically, it was a competition night that he was attending that resulted in him being in the wrong place at the wrong time for his murderer to strike.

The Baldocks though, have their memories of Edward - and that’s something his killer can’t take away.

The pain goes on, but Tracy now can remember her dad through her children, who bear an uncanny resemblance to a grandfather they’ll never know properly.

“Both of my sons. You look at them and you’re like… wow,” she said.

“It’s nice to see his genes have carried on so prominently.”
