Six charged over wild nightclub brawl that injured police

Six charged over wild nightclub brawl that injured police Two police officers found themselves at the centre of a fight involving multiple people in a Sydney nightclub that had to be broken up with capsicum spray.

Gold Coast nightclub owner Ivan Tesic has been sentenced to eight years and nine months in jail for possessing almost four kilograms of pure methamphetamine with a street value of up to $5.25 million.

A jury last week found Tesic guilty of possessing six bottles of pure meth oil, weighing 3.68kg, that was found in a car at his Gold Coast home in 2014.

They were unable to reach a verdict on the charge of drug trafficking and prosecutors today told the court that charge would no longer proceed.

Tostee allegedly assaulted by woman on Gold Coast Gable Tostee has allegedly been assaulted by a woman at his parents' home on the Gold Coast. Police were called to the home in a gated estate in Carrara just before 2pm yesterday, after Gable Tostee – now known as Eric Thomas – reported a woman "going off" and assaulting him. 9 News understands neither Tostee or the woman were seriously injured. It is an unwanted return to the spotlight for Tostee, who was acquitted of the murder and manslaughter of Warriena Wright in 2014.

Tesic's lawyer, Saul Holt QC, told the court he was a "mere courier" but in sentencing Justice Glenn Martin said the amount of ice "suggests that you have greater power than an ordinary courier might be expected to have."

Tesic's lawyers have lodged an appeal against the guilty conviction on the possession charge, claiming it was "unreasonable or not supported by the evidence."

They asked for Tesic to be released on bail pending the appeal but this was rejected.

Tesic will have to serve at least half of the sentence, minus the 427 days he's already been in custody, before being eligible for parole.
