A gang of thugs are on the run after terrorising an elderly couple in their Brisbane home.

Armed with a tomahawk and hammers, three men smashed through the front door of June McConnell’s Wavell Heights home at about 6.30 on Friday night.

In what police have confirmed was a case of mistaken identity, the 76-year-old was startled when the group broke through her glass doors and began demanding to know where “Seb” was.

Police confirmed the man the group were seeking lived in the house next door to the McConnells and had moved out just six weeks earlier.

“They can rot in hell for me, they can go to jail,” Ms McConnell said.

Neither Ms McConnell or her husband were injured during the attack.
