Investigators have been told the girl was at Footscray Railway Station about 2.30pm on February 21 when she was approached by the man.

The man then allegedly proceeded to sexually assault the girl before station staff intervened. The offender then walked off towards Cowper Street.

He is due to front the Melbourne Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Investigators earlier released images of a man and urged anyone with information to contact police.
