The mother of an officer who was gunned down on the job has made a desperate plea ahead of the release of one of the men convicted over her son's death.

Benjamin Ernest Power, who was sentenced to nine years in prison for being an accomplice in the murder of Detective Senior Constable Damian Leeding in 2011, is expected to walk free later this week.

Constable Leeding was shot in the face at point blank range after responding to an armed hold-up at the Pacific Pines Tavern on the Gold Coast.
