A man has narrowly avoided serious injury or death in Sydney's west, after a hooded gunman fired several gunshots at him after he entered his home in Caddens.

As the unknown resident walks up the steps to the house in Valencia Street, dust flies through the air as multiple bullets hit the building before the man enters, closing the door behind him.

The attacker, with his face covered, then runs into the frame and waves his gun at the door of the house, before fleeing.

Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It's not clear from the CNBC report what the source of the leaked footage was.

The man fled the scene in a stolen black Mercedes A45 coupe, which was located roughly 30 kilometres away in Merrylands a few hours later, having caught on fire.

The vehicle was bearing stolen Victorian number plates, with registration AAV-765, and is believed to have travelled between the two suburbs at speed.

A crime scene was established at both locations and examined by specialist forensic officers.

Detectives from Nepean Police Area Command, in partnership with Operation Talon, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting under Strike Force Geering.

On Thursday, investigators conducted seven Firearms Prohibition Order searches at at Caddens, Cambridge Park, Castlereagh, Emu Plains, Kingswood, Sydney CBD, and Wentworth Point.
