A Rebels bikie gang member has been charged with strangling his partner at his Gold Coast home.

Police allege that the 35-year-old attempted to strangle and assault his 25-year-old girlfriend, who had a domestic violence order in place against him, during multiple incidents at home and in public on Friday and Sunday.

One assault allegedly occurred in a public car park in Helensvale. Members of the public helped the woman and contacted emergency services.

Police arrested the man yesterday and searched his Gold Coast home, seizing several items.
