Life savings of elderly scam victims handed back.
The life savings of an elderly Sydney couple who were duped by roof scammers will be returned to them. The couple – a man aged 93 and his 91-year-old wife – were tricked into paying the conmen after they visited their Haberfield home earlier this year. After the scammers watched the woman pay for false roof repairs, the gang returned the next day to steal thousands of dollars from a cash tin. Detectives set up Strike Force Vennard to investigate the theft of the couple’s savings and other scams. In March, police arrested a 38-year-old UK national who was the alleged ringleader of the scammers.
