A Sydney man who was caught driving five times over the legal blood alcohol reading and with a toddler in the car has avoided jail.

Lloyd Dening, 55, of Dee Why, was pulled over on Parkview Road in Fairlight on March 26, after police received a tip-off that he’d been drinking at The Sand Hotel in Narrabeen.

When officers breath-tested him, he returned a reading of 0.252, five times the legal limit.

At the time, his partner and a three-year-old disabled boy were sitting on the back seat.

Mr Dening was arrested and taken to Manly Police Station, where further checks revealed he’d previously been disqualified from driving for 22 years.

He was charged with driving with high-range PCA and driving while unlicensed.

As this was his first offence in 10 years, Magistrate Georgina Darcy ordered him to serve a six-month Intensive Corrections Orders, so he could get treatment for “alcohol abuse”.
