SYDNEY (AP) — A knife-wielding man yelling "Allahu akbar," or "God is great," attempted to stab several people in downtown Sydney on Tuesday before being restrained by members of the public, with a woman taken to a hospital, police and witnesses said.

While initial reports said the man had been tasered by the police a NSW Police spokesperson said that was not the case.

Seven News reported that hearings at the court are likely to be interrupted as there is 'major damage' to the building.

Two men have been arrested after a man was stabbed to death in Melbourne’s north. Police and paramedics were called to a house in Augusta Avenue, Campbellfield, shortly after 9pm yesterday. A man, aged in his 50s, was treated for chest injuries but was unable to be saved. Police arrested two men, who are assisting with inquiries. Members of the victim's family were seen being consoled on the street after the death. "There was a lady in hysterics crying on the street, she fainted when I got closer," a witness told 9News. "I did see the gentleman on the ground, he was covered in blood.
